Trailer Concept Ideas
Our initial idea for our trailer is based around the legend of black eyed children, who are paranormal creatures that resemble the form of a child, and repeatedly ask victims to enter their house. If the victim allows them, then the "child" inflicts a dangerous illness upon the victim. There is one alleged account where someone who survived was able to tell the story where they allegedly got cancer at an alarming rate from the occurrence. We have decided to base our trailer upon this idea as it was an interesting concept with an attachment to children acting as the basis for our horror.
We found a short film based around this myth called The Artifice, which is a high quality short film that uses this legend to great effect. We will not steal the exact circumstances from this film, but take heavy inspiration from it. We will instead have the child playing with its victim rather than just repeatedly asking to come in. This will show the childish demeanour of the paranormal creature to make the trailer more scary.

Village of the Damned (1960, 1995)
Village of the Damned is an old horror film that originally dates from 1960, and was remade in 1995 in colour. It centres around a similar premise to our idea; there are a number of children who are all born on the same day to all the women in the titular village. They have strange paranormal abilities; they seem to have the ability to control a person's mind. This is done through a form of hypnotism done through the children's eye, which are unusually dark. This film will be a strong piece of inspiration for our trailer due to the similar subject matter.
Character Ideas
The Female Victim
- Typical portrayal of vulnerable and in need of protection; usually young, blonde and attractive
- Portrayed as unliked and annoying; isn't usually the first to be killed but is later killed in a gruesome manner
Non-Believer
- Usually cocky; convinces other characters that there is nothing going on and that they are overreacting
- Overconfident portrayal; they are usually the first to be killed off or leads to the mass killing of others
Hero
- Never really a "hero"; more of a brave character that goes after the killer and usually never returns
- Almost always a male of string masculine build; tends to show little emotion in the film
Hysterical Character
- Mostly female; doesn't want to leave the building they are in after usually witnessing the murder of her friend
- Always killed in the end; either due to her staying behind or saved until last after everybody else is hunted down
Villain Character
- Can be anything (serial killer, ghost, demonic possession, etc.); often has a disguise if they are human (e.g. mask)
- Never reacts "normally" to injuries; they often get back up from a stabbing, etc. relatively unharmed
Because of the length of the trailer, we are unlikely to include much footage of each different character type within the trailer. The initial start of the trailer may feature the majority of the characters in order to set the scene for the overall premise of the film. The killer (Villain Character) will likely be shown very briefly so will not find that much out about them. They will be shown most presumably in a hazy close up or hidden in the shadows if anything. The Female Victim will probably be shown in a state of panic and vulnerability; for instance having her covered in blood or unable to do anything. Since she is a lesser character to that of other characters (i.e. the Hero, etc.), she will likely be shown very little aside from the possible setting of the scene at the start of the trailer. The Hysterical Character will also follow a similar pattern as they are again not as crucial to the film's plot than other characters. The Hero will probably feature more since they will be more crucial to the plot, likely shown doing something "heroic" or brave. They will feature the most in the trailer due to their importance to the overall plot. Finally, the Non-Believer will have a lesser involvement in the trailer as they are usually killed off early and therefore have less chance to actually have an impact other than to be the first victim.
