Sound in horror
Contrast between situation and sound, confusion in the brain makes it sound creepy. (lullabies)
High frequency, brain thinks its unthreatening therefore brain thinks no danger so when the screen plays something creepy, it will be more scary
Woodwinds, waves are not patterned, so seems unsettling (it is very good for large creatures approaching, an example of this would be Jaws)
Marriage with the visuals - Music should be added at the end, this is because otherwise music can become out of sync with the rest.
Jump scares - The temptation to go from silence to a sudden noise isn’t effective as much as to lead the audience into false sense of security first
Combining Sounds - Human scream, camera shutter, brass/woodwind swell, single high note on xylophone. (Jaws)
Other ways include reversing other sounds, Reverbs, echoes, panning, avoid cliches
