MetaCritic
MetaCritic is an online rating website that reviews any film, TV show or video game using a red/amber/green rating system. For something to qualify as green rated, it must reach a minimum score of at least 75 out of 100; with a score of 50 to 74 granting an amber rating, and a score lower than 50 qualifies as a red score. Every film, TV show or game is scored from review scores from any number of different sources; from well known and respected critics (such as magazines, e.g. Empire) and from reviews posted online by people using message boards. However, a review from a more valuable source (i.e. respected critics and media) will contribute more towards the scoring of a film, etc. than the scoring given by a non-valuable source (i.e. regular people on message boards). The scores given are averaged out to give the final overall score, but this score can be changed over time as more reviews are posted online.

Of the horror films that are rated on the MetaCritic website, the majority of the top rated films are based around the horror sub-genre of Thriller. Such examples of this include the films The Babadook, Jaws, and Under the Shadow, all of which are rated within the top ten horror films on MetaCritic. The films that do the worst on MetaCritic tend to be the ones that are categorised under horror comedies or have some form of supernatural/paranormal element (although some, such as the horror comedy Shaun of the Dead, are an exception to this rule). As a result of these findings, we have decided that it would be best to go along the route of having a thriller-based horror film, mainly due to the fact that these sort of films are easier to make a god film out of and they tend to do extremely well upon release. We are not going to make the film a comedy as they are extremely difficult to pull off effectively, and supernatural films do not tend to strike as well with audiences as a horror that could possibly happen, i.e. the thriller sub-genre films.
